Substitutes non-attributed blocks on existing inserts and preserves the group.

It works like a block replace except it does not change the handle and group association. Sometimes a collection of node and insert objects may be bound together in a single anonymous group for the convenience of moving them together. If you replaced an insert, the old one would be removed and a new one generated. But the new insert would not be a part of the group, hence the purpose of this derivative tool.
