Polyline Densify

The Densify command works on 2D, 3D, or Lightweight polylines. It is used to place additional points along the path of the polyline, therefore densifying its data. Often used to add weight and control to geometry used in generating digital terrain models.

Keyboard Command: PlnVtxDen

🔗Procedure:

  1. Issue the Densify command from the polyline flyout.
  2. Select polylines to process, see note below regarding polylines containing arc segments.
  3. Specify the desired distance between newly created points.
  4. Specify the discard distance. This distance is used to determine which points should not be added. If the potential new point is within this distance from an original point, it will not be added because it is too close.

Note: This tool will not generate accurate results if applied to polylines that contain arc segments. You can determine if it has arc segments using ToolPac's Polyline Information tool. At your option, you can remove the arcs with the ToolPac Remove Arc's tool. Bear in mind that 3D polyline cannot contain arcs.
