Exports the properties of multiple objects to one or more sheets inside Excel.
Keyboard Command: XL2CADTPE
Procedure:
- Prepare Excel by either closing all instances or close all but one instance, and make sure it has a new empty workbook ready with the cell cursor in the upper left cell (A1).
- Prepare CAD by opening the drawing you wish to export content from. Thaw any layers as necessary so you can select the objects.
- From CAD, select this tool from the menu, ribbon, or command above.
- Select the objects in the drawing. You may select multiple objects of different object types.
- Press enter to complete the object selection and wait for the spreadsheet to populate.
Results Details:
- Each object type is exported to a sheet (tab) of its object type. There will be one row per object selected of each type. For example, if you select 10 circles there will be 10 rows of data on a sheet named AcDbCircle. These sheet names are important and should not be renamed if you intend to import changes back into CAD.
- Each sheet will contain one header row (line 1) that contains field names. These field names should not be changed if you intend to import changes back. If there are columns you are not interested in, you may delete those columns (or move them left, right) with one exception. The first column (Handle) should not be removed or moved. It should remain the first column and its cells never changed, otherwise the import tool will not be able to find the CAD object to be updated.
- You will notice certain columns use red colored text and have a marking comment on the header to indicate the content is read-only. While you can change the content of these columns, they are ignored during the import process.
