ArcGIS Legacy Engine
Open an Esri ArcMap document (*.mxd) with the 32-bit version of SurvPC 6 and later via the following:
- Access the Main Menu → File → Job command.
- Set the Type option to ArcMap Docs as shown below:
Esri typically places the geodatabase in a subdirectory below the directory containing the .mxd file. Carlson SurvPC Esri also creates another database in a subdirectory based on the name of the .mxd file with a CSCRD_ prefix. This database contains pertinent survey data required for SurvPC Esri to operate properly. Upon loading the ArcMap document, the name and location of the geodatabase (.gdb) directory is shown.
Notes:
- When an .mxd file is loaded for the first time, a coordinate file (.crd) file is also created for SurvPC. This coordinate file can be loaded in the future and SurvPC will find the associated .mxd file automatically.
- If an .mxd file does not exist, the user may create an empty one and add data from the Feature Manager screen.
- The .mxd file is the map document with references to other file types, one of which is a geodatabase (.gdb).
- Older ArcMap documents may have also used an Access (.mdb) database or an Oracle database. These can also be loaded for the .mxd file.
- Because SurvPC Esri writes to a database, drained batteries or unexpected program closing does not impact the stored map.
