The Visualize command permits the graphical display and/or inspection of a BIM data set. The routine begins by launching the standard File Selector that permits one of the following data sources to be specified:
- RVT - Opens a specified Revit® file.
- IFC - Opens a specified Industry Foundation Class file.
Once a BIM model is loaded, you can visualize the 3D structure and navigate through different parts of the model.
Note: Found within Visualize are several standard Map Screen View Controls.
Additional controls include:
- Settings: (gears) Use this button to set BIM file alignment parameters and quickly set pre-determined view directions.
More Information
- Open BIM File: Launches the standard File Selector that permits an alternate BIM file to be loaded.
- Select View: (Revit Files) Permits a pre-configured view stored within the BIM file to be set as active.
- Alignment: Use this option to control how the model is oriented to existing project data.
More Information
Up to two data points can be defined to control the alignment of the model:
- The first point establishes the location for where the model should be placed,
- The second point (if specified) establishes the rotation of the model.
Note: The model is not scaled.
- Delete: Removes the currently selected/highlighted alignment point from the list.
- On/Off: Provides the ability to use or ignore horizontal and/or vertical constraints for the currently selected alignment point.
- Edit: Permits modification to the currently selected alignment point in a dialog box virtually identical to that used for the Add routine.
- Load: Launches the standard File Selector that permits a previously saved BIM alignment *.LPT file to be recalled.
- Save: Launches the standard File Selector that permits the current alignment information to be saved to a *.LPT BIM alignment file.
- Add: Use this command to specify a known job point and an equivalent BIM model point.
Note: The point(s) can be established through the existing Point List or through a Map Screen pick.
Note: Tapping the Select button permits a graphical location within the model to be specified.
- Settings: Use this option to control the camera settings and overall background color.
- [Named Side] View: Indicate a standard view orientation (e.g. Top, Front, etc) to display the model.
- Pan/3D Spin: Alternates between pan-mode and 3D-spin mode which provides the ability to reorient the BIM data set into a different 3D orientation.
Note: Tapping the Zoom Extents button will revert the view of Revit models back to initial conditions.
- View: Permits aspects of the BIM data set to be shown or hidden from the current view.
More Information
Depending on the content of the BIM file, the visibility of various components can be turned off/on to aid with simplifying the data of interest.
- Isolate: When clicked, the currently selected component is toggled On along with its parent item(s) and any direct child element(s).
- All On: When clicked, all items within the model are toggled On.
- All Off: When clicked, all items within the model are toggled Off.
Note: While viewing the model, tapping a point on the model allows users to extract specific coordinates or points from the BIM model, such as key intersections, structural points, or foundation corners. These coordinates can then be used for surveying tasks, including staking and layout.
