Point Average is a processing command useful in obtaining both the average value of the coordinates of a range of points as well as estimates of the variation of the data.
The routine
Note: For a more verbose method, consider the use of the Store Points - Average routine.
In addition to the standard Point ID, Northing, Easting, Elevation and Description data associated with each point are these options:
- Store Point: (icon) To the immediate left of the Orange Back Arrow is Store Point button that commits the current calculation result as a point in the current Job.
- On/Off: Indicate whether or not a point should be included in the calculation.
- H/V Res: The Horizontal/Vertical deviation, respectively, of the point from the Mean.
- H/V: Independent controls that permit the Horizontal and/or Vertical component of the point to be used or not used in the calculation.
- Average Coords: The average results of the current point settings.
- StdDev: The Standard Deviation that summarizes the dispersion of the deviations.
- Range of Points: The range of points is entered using the standard SurvPC convention of dash and comma separators. For example, to average points 11 to 15 as well as 17 and 20, the entry format would be 11-15,17,20.
Note: Points can also be specified through the standard Point List and/or Map Screen pick.
- On/Off: (button) Deactivates/activates the currently selected point.
- Average: When new points are added or points are turned on or off, clicking Average initiates a fresh calculation.
