The TS tab allows you to specify how total station measurements are interpreted.
- Curvature & Refraction: When enabled, this option causes an adjustment in distance measurement. Effects are negligible except over long distances. It is recommended that this toggle be enabled, except in those cases where it is already applied in the instrument.
- Sea Level Correction: When enabled, the horizontal distance at the source point's elevation is reduced to the sea level chord using the mean height of the vector above the ellipsoid. Typically, this value is negligible unless measuring very long distances.
- Use Ground to Grid: When enabled, you can specify or calculate the Ground to Grid scale factor. For most applications, this option is not enabled (the actual distance measurements from the total station are used).
More Information
In situations where it is desirable to convert total station ground measurements to match GPS grid measurements, the Ground to Grid scale factor can be supplied or computed through the exposed Calculate button that launches the dialog box below:
The ultimate goal will be to supply or calculate a Combined Scale Factor through a desired Method:
- Manual Entry: Use this when the combined scale factor is already known.
- Grid Coordinates: Use this if the job contains an existing grid coordinate.
- Average Points: Use this when two or more points should be averaged (commonly around the perimeter of the site) to derive the combined scale factor.
- Advanced Mode: Use this option when the Grid Factor and Height Factor are either known or should be independently determined.
- Automatic scale to grid: When enabled, total station ground distances are scaled to grid distances.
