The Job command launches the standard File Selector that permits an existing job to be selected or the creation of a new job by supplying a desired job name in the Name field:
Create a New Job
To create a new job, simply enter a new name and select OK (✅). You can control where your job is saved by browsing to the desired folder where the job is to be created before entering the new name and selecting OK. You can also create a new folder for this new file name. Following job creation, you will be asked to enter in Job Attribute information. This feature lets you set up prompting for each new job with job-related attributes like Client, Jurisdiction, Weather Conditions and the like. The information is stored in the raw file. This is discussed in detail in the Job Setting section.
All data points you collect are stored in the specified job file which is typically one of two main file types:
- *.crd - Explicitly specifying a crd extension to the job name will create a native Carlson-formatted coordinate file. Point Names (IDs) are limited to 9 characters and Point Descriptions are limited to 31 characters.
- *.crdb - Explicitly specifying a crdb extension to the job name will create a SQLite database version of the coordinate file which enables Point Names (IDs) and Point Descriptions up to 255 characters. Point ranges in a crdb file are presented to the user from highest number to lowest (e.g. 10, 9, …, 1).
Note: Once you've specified a desired format (e.g. crd vs crdb), that particular format becomes the default on new jobs until changed.
The location for the specified job will be in the active folder unless the Create new jobs in folders option is enabled.
Select Existing Job
To select an existing job, browse to and select an existing file, then select OK (✅).
Note: If you key in a coordinate file that already exists, it will load the file instead of overwriting it with a new file. The benefit of this feature is that you cannot accidentally overwrite an existing coordinate file from within Carlson SurvPC.
ArcGIS Online
When enabled, the SurvPC Job will be configured to work in conjuction with the ArcGIS Online functionality as developed by Esri.
