DTM from .dxf

The DTM from .dxf command allows you to create a TIN (DTM) from a DXF file that contains 3DFACE entities. The process involves two main steps:

  1. The standard File Selector is launched that permits you to select the DXF file that contains the 3DFACE entities.

Note: Care should be exercised as the routine will use ALL 3DFACE entities within the DXF file regardless of their layer(s), elevation and Freeze/Thaw status.

  2. The DTM from .dxf dialog box appears:

    • DTM (*.tin, *.flt): Use the Select New DTM File button to launch the standard File Selector to specify the file name (and optional file type) that will receive the surface information.
    • Draw 3DFace entities: When enabled, the graphical representation of the surface will be drawn as collections of closed 3D Polylines into the Map Screen on the selected Layer.

Note: There is generally no value to seeing the surface entities, so it is recommended that they not be drawn.

    • Force to Solids (MDLs): When enabled, BIM-oriented models of the surfaces can be generated.
