The Map Screen provides a graphic representation of collected field data and can be used to perform in-field drafting and inquiry operations. The graphic content is loaded with the active job when the Auto Load Map option is enabled. It is accessed by tapping the Globe icon in the upper right of the Main Menu.
Note: The backgroun color of the Map can be controlled through File - Preferences.
Note: Maps are saved in an ASCII DXF format and are subject to Advanced Settings - Save Map options. Further, no equipment measurements are taken from the Map screen.
Note: The visibility of menus can be controlled through File - Preferences.
Additional controls include:
- Cmd: Directly under the File/View menus is the Cmd: prompt area where commands and responses to their prompts can be typed.
- Layer: Indicates the current layer (essentially, a way to categorize information within the map) to where newly drawn information will be placed.
Note: Tapping on the layer name itself will launch the Layer command.
Executing Commands
Although it is customary to use the pull-down menus to initiate commands, it is also possible to initiate them through their full Command name or even a shorter, user-defined Alias.
When interacting with the routines, the following conventions should be noted:
- Keystrokes are not Case-Sensitive.
- Options for each routine are offered between "/" characters. For example, consider the options presented for View - Zoom:
-pT/In/Out/Wnd/Prev/Ext/<eXit>
- The Capitalized letter(s) of each option indicate a short-cut to the full-text of the option and their use is encouraged. Again, these are not Case-Sensitive and need to be followed with the Enter key.
Note: Tapping on the option will also run the option.
- The default option that will fire in response to an Enter-only keystroke will be enclosed within <> characters.
- To exit from a Command, press the Esc key.
- After exiting from a Command, pressing Enter by itself will re-run the previous Command.
More Information
As an alternative to the dialog box-based Manual Traverse command, Traverse/Sideshot data can also be entered via the Map Screen via its Cmd: line area. Enter:
- "I" for Inverse, to inverse to an occupied point, or from backsight point to occupied point,
Then:
- "T" for Traverse, or
- "S" for SideShot
Use numeric angle codes:
- 1 = NE
- 2 = SE
- 3 = SW
- 4 = NW
- 5 = AZ
- 6 = AL
- 7 = AR
Follow the prompting for angle and distance entry. This style works strictly off the keyboard and does not require any screen tapping to switch from Traverse to Sideshot to Inverse. The points plot on the screen as you go.
Note: In the Map screen, Traverse Defaults (TD) will turn instrument and target height prompting on and off.
Panning the Screen
The user can pan (shift focus to a different part of the display) anytime with the availability of a touch-enabled screen. To use this feature, the user should:
- touch and hold on an empty area of the map, and,
- drag that position to an alternate location on the screen and then release
Note: Only the display moves. All objects retain their coordinates.
Point Details
Unless you are in the middle of a MAP screen command, you can click on a point and see a Point Details dialog with functionality similar to that in Store Points. If you tap near several points, a list of nearby points will appear from which you can select the target point.
Control Points
Control Points can be used in Map Screen commands when the Configure - Use Ctrl Pts for Map Selection option is enabled. Then, during any map command the option for Ctrl points will be available to use in that Map command.
Line Details
Unless you are in the middle of a Map screen command and if Configure - Use Line Details is enabled, you can also click on a line and see Line Details.
Note: Refer to the Store Points - Line Details for additional information.
